Where has the summer gone?
For an instant Autumn/Winter wardrobe update its time to invest in a duffle coat! Never before has a fashion item been so versatile and unique that it has been able to grace the catwalks year after year. Not only is it versatile, however, but let’s be honest, with this English weather, more often than not its downright necessary!
It is stated through history that we were first graced with the duffle coat in the 1890s, however, most would only remember it from the 1950s when a certain bear turned up at Paddington station in his little blue duffle coat, black hat and wellington boots. Of course Paddington bear set the standard for the duffle coats, which he loved so much that he never took it off! Since Paddington bear, however, the style has been sourced by many a designers with Chanel giving it their traditional spin in the 1980s……and of course whatever Chanel does, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Burberry and many more follow.
It cannot be denied, the item is timeless yet quirky, and no one does quirky better than Agyness Dean and Lilly Allen, both of whom are amid followers of the classic duffle coat. Whilst these two stars do not by any means resemble each other, it has to be stated that they do share a terrific sense of style!
I mean come on, this classic masterpiece has defied time in its quest to become the staple good of the Autumn/Winter wardrobe. The puffer jacket failed and let’s face it the biker leather jackets are
just not conventional, neither do they keep you warm, so as time has proved the duffle coat is here to stay!
