Elbow and shoulder patches
No longer is the elbow patch for a country gent, or shoulder patches seen on just your local bin men! The elbow and shoulder patch is back in fashion and its on trend right now!
Originally falling under the category of “sports coats”, garments with elbow and shoulder patches were created to be worn on their own, less formal than a suit and were usually made from thick fabrics such as Tweed, which were long-lasting. Shooting Jackets would feature leather patches on the shoulder to prevent wear and tear from the butt of a shooting rifle. These sport jackets also included elbow patches.

Some believe that the history of elbow patches is deeply seated in British tailoring, but records show that German army forces incorporated the elbow patch onto their uniforms for crawling purposes.
Hit the high street or shop online and you’ll see hundreds of jackets with the elbow patch revival, you’ll also find other clothing such as thick knits, blazers and long-sleeved t-shirts bearing these rather quaint features.
It actually makes sense to cover those areas that wear quickly with added material and patches not only come in leather but in a range of materials and prints. Not that we’re all going to be crawling around on our elbows when wearing these items.
If that coat has rather taken your fancy, grab it and wear it with pride, lean upon a bar or at a fire-place and make good use of those elbow patches.
These type of coats are styled on classic traditional tailoring and will be something that you can store in your wardrobe and whip out at a moments notice. They are warm, thick, sturdy and stylish and can be a formal or casual jacket for winter and summer.
All hail elbow pads, we love em’.

Nehru Jackets
The team at Duffle Coats UK like to look at different styles of jackets and coats and some that have inspired other fashion statements through the years. Today we are taking a look at Nehru Jackets.

Originally produced for men and women, this hip-length tailored jacket began in India in the 1940s. It was originally worn by the royal courtiers and nobles and became a popular garment after being sported by the Indian Prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It was created for those Indian officials attending government who did not want to adopt a western style suit, they also required something practical and opted for a shortened jackets as previously, traditional Indian Jackets were knee-length.
The Nehru jacket became incredibly popular during the 1960s and 70s, worn all over the globe by such stars as the Beatles. Many celebrities and stars have chosen the Nehru Jacket as a formal piece and something unusual.

This hip length tailored jacket simply buttons all the way through to the neck, where this jacket has a shortened collar. It has an oriental flare and is made from a range of materials.
It is perfect for formal occasions and is still a popular form of smart wear in India today.
There are so many style of coats and jackets across the globe, some steeped in tradition and folk law, some work only for special occasions and many that are worn everyday by thousands.
We love to track the history and construction of coats and jackets and when something new hits the high street or catwalk, we can see where it has been inspired by previous styles and historical tailoring.
The Nehru Jacket is a great choice if you want to wear something formal without having to choose a suit jacket. It provides beautiful tailoring and a unique look.

Varsity Jackets
Varsity Jackets were first spotted in America in the 1950’s when kids came into their own and started breaking away from the social norm.
The premise of this type of jacket was for the high school sports to have a jacket for the players of the American football or baseball team to wear, to show they were a member of an elite group of athletes.
The sports team, high school or college that made them for their players would have the logo of the team stitched onto it.
It only seemed that ‘jocks’ would wear these types of coats to promote the sports team they played for.
In the 90’s in America they became more of a mainstream fashion item that people would wear even if they weren’t involved in any sports socials.
Now they have made their way over the Atlantic and have been spotted on celebrities in the UK.
They are a good coat to wear, but they only work with a certain sporty style. They wouldn’t be a good choice of coat to wear to a job interview in London although a duffle coat or pea coat would be. But they are very stylish and can come in many different designs.
Some high street stores and fashion designers have been found to sell their jackets for over £500, saying that they are one of the ‘best looking’ coats on the high street.
But whereas duffle and pea coats usually are trendy for certain winter and autumn seasons, it seems like the varsity jacket was purposely made for more of the spring and summers months. As mentioned before they were made for sports teams including baseball, it means they had to be light and not over heat the athlete especially when baseball is a summer sport.
One of the most popular items you can buy in America for your favourite sports team is a varsity styled jacket that has their logo incrusted on it.

The Best Xmas Present
It comes to Christmas day and most men are eager to rip of the wrapping from their presents. They want to find an xbox or a playstation that come with many games, but sometimes they may get the shock surprise of opening up their present to find a Christmas jumper.
At Dufflecoatsuk.co.uk we love Christmas Jumpers and wear ours with pride!
But Christmas jumpers are a great way to keep the men you care about warm during this winter. Even though some may have funny designs imprinted into their wool, they are a fun item to wear to go Christmas gatherings and parties.
The style of designs you can get on a Christmas jumper may range from something that you could get away with wearing even after Christmas day and new year is over, to the outright ridiculous that only can be worn a few days leading up towards Christmas.
But these jumpers are a great way to get yourself into the Christmas spirit and spread cheer and joyousness around to everyone you come in contact with.
They should be taken with a pinch of salt, people usually wear them just to get themselves in the mood for the season of good will and love, it’s not supposed to be a fashion statement when people wear them.
Jumpers which were only noticed on people of the older generation have now been spotted on people in their younger years. It once used to be a jumper that only older people were spotted in, but as fashion dictates they sometimes take the most unconventional piece of clothing and make it into a big issue for people to go out and buy. Giving the reason to more prolific designs and styles that people can go out and buy for either them or for a loved one.
So get into Christmas cheer and wear a xmas style jumper, more importantly hone up on your acting skills just in case you open your present and you have been given one. “Ohh I’ve always wanted one of these!”

Famous coats for auction
Sometimes you will come across famous people’s coats and jackets up for auction whether that particular celeb is still with us today or have passed on. When people bid for such items and win they are probably not buying them to wear on a daily basis, these people are mainly collectors and are adding it to their assortment of many of possessions that they might already own.
Sometimes these coats can have a weird history attached and are sometimes the reason they’re being auctioned off, but this can add to how well it sells. Usually a famous person’s wardrobe may be cleared out and the proceeds go to a charity of their choice or their next of kins choice.
Recently an auction has been held for the velvet coat that Jimi Hendrix wore the night that he died. The coat was left with his friend to look after believing Jimi was going to pick it up from him, but unfortunately Hendrix soon passed away. With this in mind he gave it to a collector who left it at his mother’s house to keep watch on. Unfortunately he thought his mother gave the coat away to charity and spent days trying to find it but couldn’t find it anywhere. 10 years passed as he gave up hope of seeing this special coat again, until one day as he was clearing his mother’s house out, he found it hidden away from sight. The collector has put it up for auction and it has been said to be valued at $40,000.Jimi is well known for his crazy and funky performances at Woodstock where he managed to play the guitar whilst rolling around on his back and then setting his instrument on fire.
Auctions for famous pieces of clothing seem to be going on all the time, they can sometimes be a private auction for collectors only or an open auction for public to attend.
I’m just wondering when my curry stained denim jeans are going to be auctioned off and how much they will eventually fetch. -

Another Happy Customer at Duffle Coats UK
The first coat ordered arrived within two days and I was absolutely thrilled. The measurement guide on the website was a great help and ensured that the coat fitted perfectly.
It is a heavy, well-made garment and ideal for very cold weather. It is also very smart and gets a lot of compliments, wherever I wear it.
On the first day, my daughter was so impressed that she placed an order and was delighted to receive confirmation that it was on its way. Unfortunately, there was a total breakdown in communication with the carrier and it took some time for the problem to be resolved.
However, as soon as the problem came to the attention of the management of DuffleCoatsUK, the speed with which they did all they could to make amends was breathtaking.
This is clearly a company which prides itself on superb coats – and service. Don’t be put off by the low price. This is a real bargain and you will not be disappointed if you order one of these coats.
