  • The 10 items of Christmas

Posted 28 Oct, 2011 in duffle coats

We’ve all heard of the 12 days of Christmas and wondered how nice it would be to have 5 gold rings, 4 Colly birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle and doves and a partridge in a pear tree, especially the partridge it’ll be lovely to roast with a few potatoes and gravy.
Imagine if you will, angelic choir boys singing ‘The 10 items you need, for your new Christmas wardrobe’ and then list of what you will need to keep you in date, in fashion and more importantly on trend this Christmas.
The first would be a decent duffle coat, one that’s stylish, warm and perfect for the winter months.
Second is a pair of shades, yes it sounds odd but winter sun can be as strong as the summer, and you need to protect your peepers!
The third thing would be an oversized bag, in which you could hold all of your personal belongings, and perfect for Christmas Shopping.            The fourth is a 40’s inspired polka dot dress, very on trend at the moment and versatile.
The fifth are earrings. Wearing earrings always adds extra dimensions to your face.  Petite and cute or big and dangly, feathers make great earrings, have a go at making a pair yourself.
Sixth is jumpers, this season cable knit chunky jumpers are in, so grab an old fisherman’s jumper or retro cricket jumper.
Seventh is a decent pair of shoes, they’re perfect for walking in the rain, snow or even treading on ice.  They can keep your feet dry and warm, but also they can help you keep you stable and balanced so you don’t slip over. Opt for a pair of old pit boots for day and a gorgeous metallic pair of heels for night.
Eighth is hat and gloves, to keep you warm and looking cool. This season a faux fur pill box hat will create that “Russian Bond Girl” look.
Ninth is a scarf, something soft and gorgeous like cashmere or lambs wool is perfect.
Tenth and most important is to not follow the Halloween look, wearing black is an easy option, try some of the vibrant rich colours available this winter.

  • Remember, remember the 5th of November

Posted 27 Oct, 2011 in duffle coats, General

‘Remember, remember the 5th of November’ or at least remember the week before when you went out and bought a new coat, so you could get ready for the celebrations happening next weekend.

This year the 5th of November celebrations land on a Saturday, meaning that over the whole weekend there should be a firework display going on at your local pub, community centre, stately home, national trust property or even in the confines of your own garden.  If you have children, different sets of friends or another half, this means that there is a likely chance that Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night, you will end up at an event somewhere covered in toffee and mud, feeling slightly cold . Now, with Bonfire Night being an outdoor event and you not being a domesticated house pet, this means you will be spending most of your weekend outside in the chilly autumn air. Usually the bigger bonfires are cordoned off, so keeping warm is like eating a toffee apple that does not make your lips or hands sticky and fireworks tend to be too dangerous to shove up your jacket to keep you warm. The best thing you can do is this weekend in preparation, is go out and get yourself and decent duffle coat to keep you warm. Here at Duffle Coats UK we sell a variety of different styles including men’s and women’s duffle coats. These wonderful coats will keep you warm enough during the winter and Christmas months.  They are a great fashion statement and will have people looking at you in wonder.  The crowd will be cooing ‘Ohhh, Ahhh, Wow!’ You will notice that they’re not paying one bit of notice to the display of fireworks and more to the duffle coat you are wearing.

  • The Big Freeze 2011

Posted 25 Oct, 2011 in duffle coats, General

The Big Freeze is coming…..but this time we have coats!

It is the year 20,000 BC, all you are wearing is an animal skin tunic.  It’s summer, but yet you’re freezing cold, yes my friends it’s the well talked about Ice Age that you’re going through.  There are sheets and plains of Ice covering all the land for as far as the eye can see.  You try to get a fire going and you keep rubbing your hands together, but nothings working to get you warm.

Revert to the year 2011, we have just had summer and a couple of weeks ago we had one of our hottest days on record.  It has been glorious, a summer where you can choose to go on vacation, or stay in the UK and have BBQs, drinks and eat fine foods out in your garden and enjoy life.  However, it seems the winter chill has hit us hard and fast.  Luckily for us, we do not have to go around our normal day just wearing animal skin as clothing.  We can wear appropriate clothing like trousers, socks, shoes but more importantly coats and jackets.

What better way to keep warm for the winter chill, than getting yourself a Duffle Coat.  These coats always add warmth to any part of your body. Wearing one of these makes you feel sometimes like you are walking in the Mediterranean (or at least in the south of England rather than being up north in Scotland). So forget about the stories that you hear or read of this winter freeze hitting the UK hard, all you need to do to prevent feeling the
terrible cold, is to wrap up warm.  Get yourself a good pair of gloves a hat and make sure you wear trousers instead of shorts and have at least two layers on your top half.  You could combine a shirt, with a light jumper then finished off with a thick woollen duffle coat.

  • Grab your coat and app.

    Grab your coat and app

Imagine this if you will, you’re walking down your local high street and you see an old flame walking towards your direction, you want to stop and talk to them and try and stoke the fire again, but the problem is the coat that you’re wearing, you bought it last season, it has ripped, lost buttons and faded. It seems that the ‘old flame’ is wearing one of the most beautiful and luscious coats you could ever imagine them in. You become very conscious, you don’t want them to see you like this. You pretend you have forgotten something and make an awkward U-turn, or you quickly jump into the nearest shop.

However, never fear, if you find yourself in an embarrassing coat situation on a regular basis, eBay is planning to launch an app this Christmas so you can search for your dream coat. All you do is take a photo of a coat you are interested in and the app will recognise it and match you with the same or similar piece of clothing on eBay.com where you will be able to make a bid for it.

This means if you ever want to go out cloth shopping, but are worried about paying over the odds for different pieces of clothing, you can just take a photo of it and the app will match it to something on eBay. You can then see how much it’s being sold for and how long is left on the bid. All you have to do is wait a couple of days for your new duffle coat to arrive and you can head back out on the streets again. But this time you stop and chat to the ‘old flame’ and they comment on how nice your new coat looks on you.

If only an app was created to see if that old flame of yours was still interested…

  • It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Posted 11 Oct, 2011 in duffle coats

So it looks like the news has indicated that we’re going to have another cold winter this year. This means that the UK will probably close down if there is more than 1 inch of snow as is tradition. But why does it seem that the top parts of Canada, Russia and the most part of Greenland can cope most of the year during this annual weather feast that we get? This is because they seem to be able to dress and carry on their lives amongst the snow. The key here is how they dress and sustain a warm body, because of the inertia of what they are wearing. Most of it is down to wearing many layers of certain clothing, but it is also mainly because of the type of coats they seem to wear as well.

The main function of a winter jacket is to provide protection from most of the winter elements that may cause devastation on your body. Insulation fibres like wool and cashmere are good for keeping you warm during a cold winter breeze, whilst other man-made fibres like nylon or polyester can shed water easily keeping you dry during a rain shower or even a snowy period.

Most comment winter coats have special features included in them, which could be an inside pocket, a zip up hood and certain zip out linings as well. Most technical jackets have other add-ons as well, like sealed waterproof seams and zippers, breathable lining, durable rip stop fabrics and also special pockets built purposely so you can leave your MP3 player in there too.

There are many different styles of winter jackets that people can purchase, whether it’s due to the amount of money they want to spend, the shape and size of said coat, the style and how it looks upon your person and if it is for a man or woman. The different styles may include pea coats, pant coats, cocoon coats, trench coats and walk coats. Other styles may include parkas, anoraks, bomber jackets and ski jackets.

So, depending on whether or not we get 1 inch of snow or 25 inches of snow, make sure you wrap up warm this winter by buying a decent winter coat for yourselves.

  • Christmas Wish List

Posted 06 Oct, 2011 in General

It’s already here, well in the shops anyway, Christmas, it seems to get earlier every year. To support the festive season the Autumn and winter fashion collections are now prevalent as ever, and thought turn to “ I want all of those coats” or “ I would love a chunky cardigan coat”. A great way to really make sure you get what you want for Christmas is to create a wish list, and most of the big stores have this facility now where you can add items to your wish list and forward it onto your family and friends.

Starting with Amazon, originally the place to buy books, now Amazon is a hive for fashion and electrical, you can pretty much purchase anything from this fantastic website.

You can register your wish list at Amazon and forward it onto everyone, the great thing about Amazon is the range of products and prices, you know you could save yourself a packet and probably put a few more items on the wish list.
John Lewis offers their gift list service, not just for weddings, for any occasion, so you can add your gift picks to a list and again send it to the people you know want to buy you something fab for Christmas.

Something a little different for those fashion obsessed out there is Topshop’s personal shopping experience. Book a personal shopper in one of the bigger stores of Topshop and you will be whisked around the store. They will take into consideration your height, dress size, body shape and complexion and pick out the best pieces to suit you, it’s a fantastic experience and allows you to reserve clothing and have exclusive previews.

Don’t be wishy washy about what you want for Christmas this year, making a wish list is a great way to get what you want!
