  • In the wrong style zone!

Posted 20 Apr, 2011 in duffle coats

As I walk the streets of my suburban town, down through the park and over the river; I see many youngsters enjoying the summer sun. Well I say ‘enjoying’, what I actually mean is perhaps that they are over indulging in a frenzied panic to get vitamin D, this is because, of course, the sun is out.

Although this may be the case, may I remind you that it is still only sixteen degrees, not really shorts, flip flops and string vest weather now is it? Well apparently it is, I have even seen this to the extent where a young lady, who looked more like she was wearing some sort of lingerie rather than a summer dress, had to borrow her (sensible) boyfriends navy duffle coat to keep her warm instead of using it as a picnic blanket as she previously was.

This shows a classic case of those who believe that just because the sun is out, the competition begins to see how little clothes you can get away with wearing and how much flesh you can have on show.

Personally, I was walking in the glorious sunshine, however, I was wearing a pair of denim jeans, a v-neck t-shirt and a cardigan. I even had to put my duffle coat on later that evening due to the cold winds.

I know we all love showing a bit of flesh, however, as my grandma constantly told me as a young girl ‘you will catch a cold going out dressed like that’, and believe me; most of the time she was correct. So come on girls, work it out; you are in the wrong style zone to be honest. You should know that you are not dressed appropriately when you have to borrow extra layers of other people.

Now, after that short rant, I do feel like a bit past my time. so I will resign my post and say goodbye for now from me, grandma!

  • My life’s style in stories!

Posted 19 Apr, 2011 in duffle coats

Everybody has their own special and perhaps most treasured items of fashion memorabilia. Whether it be a skirt form your hay days back in the 80s, a designer handbag that you scrimped and saved for months to afford or perhaps it is a piece of jewellery that has been passed down through your family; let’s face it, everybody has their favourites!

For me I believe there are two separate fashion items that tell a story about me; here I will explain ‘my life’s style in stories’ through these items.

Perhaps my most prized possession and my favourite piece of fashion history is my grandmother’s Rotary watch that was passed down to me. It doesn’t have much monetary value, but sentimental value it has lots of.

This stunningly beautiful watch was given to my grandmother as a first year anniversary present by my late grandfather and it is this factor is why I hold such passion for this wrist accessory. You see to me, this watch represents much more than just something that looks beautiful and tells the time; it represents a tale of love. The tale of two people, who met, fell in love and never parted and for this reason I will forever cherish this watch.

Coming in at a close second place is my beloved duffle coat. Again this was passed down to me by my mother. It was her coat back in the uber funky and fashionable 1970s and due to this factor is stylishly vintage. It is a beautiful navy blue ladies duffle coat, with all of its original toggles still intact as well as its hood. It is lined with navy coloured silk and, let’s face it, will never go out of fashion.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, ‘my life’s style in stories’!

  • Spring showers!

Posted 18 Apr, 2011 in duffle coats

As I flick through a collection of high-end glossy magazines, all I see for the first dozen pages is advertisements; Gucci, Prada, Guess, Miu Miu, Moschino, Chloe, you name it and it is advertising. But what has caught my eye more than the advertisements itself, is the items that are actually being advertised.

Of course due to the spring season in hand; there are many summer handbags, gorgeous sandals and many sunglasses adverts. However, what strikes me the most is the mixture of these summer items with winter items; in spring!

No, these fabulous designer brands haven’t already released their Autumn/Winter range, but due to the British Weather; coats and other such fashions that we associate with Autumn/Winter actually don’t fit into a season as such.

Burberrys new April Showers collection highlights this point even further. Burberrys new collection ‘celebrates weather fashion and music’. Its key pieces include many coats including a Mac, duffle coat, the all important umbrella and many more items ideal for those spring showers.

Personally, here at Duffle Coats UK, we think this is an innovative design idea, after all, last weekend was glorious for a large proportion of the UK, yet this week we have experienced wind, cold temperatures and rain showers. From this sudden switch in weather, it is clear to see why winter fashion essential such as the duffle coat, the Mac and other coats and jackets are definitely needed just as much in spring as they are in winter!

There you have it; the glossy magazines are showcasing autumn/ winter wear as well as summer wear with such designer brands as Burberry even showcasing such fashion items as duffle coats and umbrellas. So our advice, here at Duffle Coats UK, is to follow lead and get yourself a duffle coat or if you already have one; don’t put it to the back of the wardrobe just yet!

  • Best spring menswear

Gentlemen put a spring in to your step with our guide to the top spring fashion picks!

    Best foot forward

The old saying goes that we women look at a man’s shoes in order to dissect the rest of him, his manners, his cleanliness, his style. Well this is true gents and so perhaps it is time to throw away those old trainers and invest in some of this season’s hottest shoes. Spring is the season of brogues and loafers, they are both smart yet stylish, can be teamed with a suit or a pair of jeans, and are perhaps the most comfortable footwear around.

I take my hat off to you

Not only will a hat protect your eyes from the glorious sunny weather that we are enjoying at the moment, but a hat also oozes style, credibility and class. I am not talking your beanie or baseball cap here; no I am talking flat caps and traditional hats.

Just think; if the likes of Johnny Depp and Jude Law can don the classic hats, then so can the rest of us mere mortals. Team your traditional hat with a tailored suit or alternatively, wear it with a crisp white t-shirt, blazer and jeans.

    Old school essentials

Yes that’s right, old school essentials are still in fashion, well let’s face it; they never went out of fashion. The number one old school essential has to be the duffle coat. Yes that’s right, a coat, ‘but it’s nearly summer‘ you say.
Well, just because we are in spring and summer is on its way, us Brits know that those cold days and rain showers are not guaranteed to be gone and so that’s where the classic duffle coats comes in. It goes with almost everything and is the epitome of old school style.

So there you have it gentlemen, put a spring into your step this season with the help of our top fashion picks!
